About Us

Our history

The “official” beginning for the KSU Challenge started in 1972 when Bob and Sandie moved here. At that time it was known as the BSU (Baptist Student Union) and was later changed to Christian Challenge. The mission statement for christian challenge is at the top of the page and it plays out in a variety of ways. Like many of the other campus ministries at K-State, Challenge has a weekly gathering where all of the students attend, but in order to really make an impact, it has to take place on a smaller scale, aka our student and staff led LIFE groups. Christian Challenge has a staff that meets at least twice weekly for prayer, staff development, and to discuss ways to impact the campus or their small groups.

How we operate

Challenge is a not for profit organization. We have several hundred students involved in our ministry, but we never take up an offering (unless it’s for a special missions opportunity) because most students don’t have any money. So, we have no money except what we (the staff) can raise ourselves. We relate what we do in campus work to what Paul did in Thessalonica. In 1 Th. 2:9, Paul said, “we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone.” Then in Ph. 4:16, he said, “even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need.” Thus, Paul raised support from the Philippians in order to minister more effectively to the Thessalonians. If you are interersted in donating funds to specific staff, staff in general, or challenge in general (for events, retreats, sound equipment, etc…) then please contact any of us. There will be a way to donate online in the future (maybe, hopefully). If you have questions about specific finance questions, then ask Sandie. Or you can download an EFT form to print and mail if you would like.

Opportunities to serve

If you’re interested in serving, here’s some different contacts. But, if there’s something you see a need for that no one is doing, then go for it!

FAQs

Finally, here are some quick questions you might be wondering about:

Why don’t you post any of the music online?
Copyright issues. Our CCLI license only allows us to play music live.
Isn’t it about time for a new CD?
Yep.
I’m an alum and want to stay in contact with other challenge alums? Is there any place online I can do so?
Not yet, but hopefully in the future. For now you can e-mail Sandie to be placed on our e-mail listserv.
